
This year has tested the resolve of many. The devastating compounded grief caused by the humanitarian crisis of COVID and the political and racial unrest is enough to send anyone into a tailspin of anxiety and depression. This year is unprecedented, to say the least. We are all doing our best to navigate unchartered waters. The news cycle and social media feeds appear to be endless with breaking news of tragic events. People are tired. But I encourage you today & every day to take steps to care for your emotional and mental wellbeing.
Pay attention to the signs your body gives. Take notice if you are sleeping more than usual, not sleeping enough, overeating, significant loss of an appetite, loss of interest in things/activities you once enjoyed, withdrawal/ social isolation, feeling in a funk & just can’t shake it, experiencing a heightened sense of fear or dread, or obsessed with the news, etc.
Do not ignore the signs and do not feel ashamed; you are not alone. It is vital that when we recognize some of these signs, to reach out to people we trust. Sometimes, talking things out with a trusted confidant can help us unravel the cause of how we are feeling and relieve the pressure of whatever we are carrying. Take time to unplug. Be intentional with your time. If you must stay informed, limit your consumption of information to an hour per day—schedule time to step outside and take a walk.
However, know that it is okay if more support is needed than what a family member or friend can provide, then I highly recommend seeking the help of a therapist. Know that admitting you need a therapist’s support is not a sign of weakness but more so a decision made from a place of strength, mustering the courage from a place of vulnerability to say I am choosing my wellness and seeking the help I need.

Good day Mrs Mc , first let me say this is a great job putting this out there , because its informative , and help us to view the things happening now in a more better light . Futhermore its a lot of us out here struggling with issues and as you had mentioned thinking about getting professional help is not a sign of weakness . Most of us do thats why we turn to all kinds of things to ease our pain .
